Book Review:When You Reach Me

When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead is a book about puzzle and mystery, but more so- friendship and the values that friends have. I got this book for my birthday and I carried it everywhere with me- school, going out to dinner, on the bus and at home. I couldn't stop reading it.
It's set around the 1970s. A girl named Miranda is having her world turning up-side down when someone punches her friend, Sal, for no reason and he for no reason (she thinks) shuts her out. Her single mother is going to be on a contestant on a TV show called The $20.000 Pyramid. Objects go missing and she finds notes from a stranger :)*.
This book wasn't thrilling or really action packed. It was a simple story (it seemed!) but then you realise it is more complex then you think. I really enjoyed how each of the characters we meet are not what we expect. They have their own backgrounds and story to tell, that all fits in with the stolen things and the notes.
But most of all, I really loved how Stead created Miranda to love the book A Wrinkle In Time**, a real book that I also got for my birthday!
In all, if I could find some unique way of summing up this book.... PLEASANT. It was a nice, calm, pleasant read.
Rating: 4 & 1/2 out of 5 stars!
Zobo!

* If you read the book, you will know why the smiley face is there!
** The author of this book is Madeleine L'engle.
