Book Look: Bridge to Terabithia

Bridge to Terabithia is by Katherine Paterson. It is about a young boy, Jesse Aarons, who lives a hard life on a farm. He is a really fast runner and often takes part in running races at school with other boys.
One day, he meets a girl in the same year, Leslie Burke. They have moved into the old Perkins' place basically next door.
As Leslie and Jesse get to know each other, they create a make believe world called Terabithia- the only way you can get across is by swinging across a rope- and the unfortunate fate of one of the characters.
Leslie is a very likable character- she's smart and honest and funny. She really doesn't truly care what other people think of her- apart from the fact girls teased her about not having a televison
Jesse is a bit laid back. He does whatever he is told without a fuss.
The close relationship between Leslie and Jesse is not like a romantic or certain feelings towards each other sort of relationship. It's like a general bond- like between a cat and a dog- not to touchy or close but strong by forever.
I loved the parts when Leslie would speak in her Terabithian Queen voice and Jesse could not match it. It was only towards the end of the book that he got the knack of it.
This book is heart warming and it made be sniff a bit at the end. The characters and setting and everything about it is beautiful. No wonder Paterson has had so many awards for this book. It had the same feel around it like I said in my book review about When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead.
That was this weeks Book Look!
