Book Review:Hatchet

Hatchet is by Gary Paulsen. It's an amazing if not unbelievable story about a boy, Brian, who has to fight with all he has to survive- courage, stamina and a hatchet, while he is trapped for months in the Canadian wilderness. How did he get there? You'll have to read the first few chapters of this exciting book to find out!

This book enabled me to make connections to other texts (including TV shows and movies) about survival and the things surrounding that.It was very interesting to read how the Brian survived for so long. But lots of things seemed to be based around wood- build a shelter out of wood, make a fire using wood, make weapons using wood and more. Wood, wood, wood. It got really boring at some stages when he was making things all from wood. Although he was trapped near a huge forest and wood was probably the only available resource, I thought Paulsen should have twisted it.
In the end, it is still an extremely great and interesting read. I just hope the sequel (I haven't read it yet) will be a bit more out there than wood. I wouldn't be surprised if you don't sound intrigued by the book after this review, but believe me, the book is more thrilling than it sounds.
Rating: 3/5 stars!
